I took the chance. At the end of the day, I have the satisfaction that I tried to do something. The zest to build is different when it is of your own. I made mistakes, fell, even today we make mistakes, and we learn from them, says Srishti Rishi, founder of Buzztiger.
As said by Theodore Roosevelt, “nothing worth having comes easy”. I also did not want something to come too easy on my plate. So I chose to be a player instead of being a spectator.
I did my Bachelor’s in Business. After graduation, I joined my family business. I was interested in it. However, things felt like coming too easy. Nothing motivated me to go to the office every day.
I was a new graduate, enjoying my life and figuring out what to do next, when one realization dawned upon me. On Zomato, you know which cuisine you get where but there is no platform to know about the events’ whereabouts.
There are so many local everyday events that people don’t go to only because they did not know. How many times it happened to you that you spend a boring evening while regretting later on that you could have gone to that karaoke or Bollywood night! So, I thought of raising a platform that could inform people about all the city events.
To check my idea’s feasibility, I did research and asked people if they would like to know about the events. They seemed interested, and that’s how I began with Buzztiger. We wanted to create buzz about all the events happening in Mumbai.
While focusing on the operational part, I was looking for someone to handle the marketing department.
Buzztiger back then was a start-up, and these marketing agencies were charging a bomb for their services. They were not charging me anything less than sixty thousand a month. It is a huge amount for start-ups. I wondered how many start-ups looking for marketing services would not be getting it due to their budget constraints. No one in their beginning phase wants to invest such a huge amount in marketing.
So, we could fill in the vacuum and change start-ups’ perspectives that marketing is not a liability but an investment you need for a business. I discussed it with my friends and decided to give a new direction to Buzztiger by catering to the needs of small and medium-sized businesses. We started providing our services in branding, marketing, photoshoot, ad campaigns, and technical solutions such as website development, maintenance, SEO, etc.
Now Buzztiger shifted from events to brands and products to create a roar about. When we started, we received a positive response wherein many brands rely on us to make their product huge. It has been two years since Buzztiger began operating. Till now, the journey has been remarkable, including the lockdown period. We made sure that such a day does not come to our doorstep wherein we don’t have any work.
The market we are dealing with is enormous. Simple ideas are generated that people want to convert into business. It is a common thing not only in Bombay but Pan India. To get their products in front of people, they incline towards social media to set the good vibes.
When we pitch to our clients, we do not showcase our price tags for services. We first know their need, their budget and accordingly curate a plan. It is customized so that there is no compromise between the quality that they need and the budget they have.
Some brands started initially to do only social media marketing, but they grew on different platforms. Along with marketing, we are helping clients with their brand strategy as well.
Now we have started a new service that is into exports. Any brand that wants their registration to be done in any foreign country, we help them do that. Under the umbrella of Buzztiger, we are providing numerous services that help us in getting exposure.
I did learn marketing and everything in college, but the real knowledge came from experience. When it comes to real business, you can’t solely rely on theory to market a product. Keeping in mind the competitive nature of the market, you have to be dynamic and flexible in your thinking. That, of course, comes from daily learning.
My teammates back then were my batchmates. We had just come out of college and were learning, experimenting with things while working together.
Though we did receive a good response, we also received rejections for no reason. So daily rejections were present along with a good response. This teaches you a lot. Once you get rejected, you have to get up and keep going.
When I had the initial idea of Buzztiger, I was doing everything by myself. Back in the day, it was a one-woman show. I was trying to build a database, going around people, visiting numerous clubs, restaurants, trying to talk to them. People asked me many questions, whether it will work or not, would I handle it or not.
When I look back, I feel happy that I took the chance. Those days I saw the event plan is not working out. Now I see that as my research work going on. I still remember very vividly how I met my friends, spoke to them about my plan. We went for our first meeting, wherein we gave our pitch and got a great response. It was amazing.
So, we are creating a roar about your brand. We are amplifying your brand’s roar to make sure that your brand reaches not only the target audience but also expands your potential audience. We are creating a roar about your brand and giving it wings so that it reaches, creating a buzz.
With her fabulous work, Srishti surely is creating a lot of buzz about her work.
