The Instagram Prodigy Who “Influenced” His Way Back From A Failure

My journey started 7-8 years back when my brother and I decided to make a meme page. We tried to create a couple of meme pages, and it got a little attraction initially. We created a page called Dude; the memes we posted on the page took off beautifully. Within three years, it reached traffic of 4.4 million followers. Eventually, I started generating revenue out of it by online marketing. We decided that we need to have an app, so we built an app called Dude App. From all these experiences, we started understanding online marketing. It was way before we launched Blusteak Media.
In the 2nd or the 3rd year of college, we got an App made for us. Within the 1st month of that App launch, we generated 50,000 App downloads. The platform couldn’t handle heavy traffic and crashed due to the traffic received. After a lot of effort, we couldn’t fix it. Eventually, we had to shut down. In a period of 4 to 5 months, we lost a considerable amount of money.
Facebook selected us in the investing program, ‘Facebook Start,’ in which we got 28,000 dollars worth of tools to develop the app. It was a failure that made us think that we need to learn a lot from this experience & share it. There’s been a lot of people asking about how to do things on the online medium.
Post that, we started our digital marketing agency, Blusteak Media, based out of Kerala. It provides all kinds of solutions for brands, social media management, influencer marketing, designing, and caters to businesses’ digital marketing needs. We have worked for 50+ clients globally with a team of 21 people, including three Co-founders.
The failure of the Dude App was our biggest failure. We invested so much time and effort, and in two months, we could not fix the technological issue. Parallelly, Facebook blocked our page ‘Dude’ because of a change in Facebook’s policies. Eventually, we lost the income source. But we didn’t regret anything. But from that failure, we learned a lot. It wasn’t the failure but the core element that helped us to build Blusteak Media.
Earlier, we had a flexible way of recruiting. We just put up the requirement in our connections and hire the people through small interviews. But now we are quite careful and want to make sure to hire people by giving them a targeted task & analyze them. Only the top & efficient ones thus selected.
Our first income was around 20-30 lakh rupees. We reinvested 90% of our earnings into the agency. On my part, I got a small amount of salary, but I was satisfied. I’m a business-minded person who tries to impact the business and get massive traffic on the platform. I have a firm belief in financial discipline and financial independence.
So, this was Jaison Thomas, co-founder of Blusteak Media, who shared his entrepreneurial journey of learning through life’s failures. His journey from Dude to Blusteak is genuinely an insightful one. Jaison’s entrepreneurial journey has taught us never to give up on the spirit of entrepreneurship.
